Advisory Service - Avoid Kubernetes
What is this
This is an advisory service for those who want to put digital services out in the world, but are not willing to go the Kubernetes' way and containerize everything.
Who is this for
It is dedicated to SME that have some level of involvment with software development and do not want to go the Kubernetes route.
Reason for that could by many, but predominantly:
- Your team is too small to deal with Kubernetes' complexity
- You strive for simplicity and software is not your main domain.
- You don't want to waste a ton on money on things that you do not need and simply get in your way.
- Going for a 'cloud hosted kubernetes solution' such as GKE, AKS, etc is not viable because the legal aspects of having your data flown to a US provider create a problem in itself (GDPR concerns and similar).
- You want to escape cloud pricing madness.
I assume that Kubernetes is a valid technology, just it's not for everybody, and if you are not a good fit you can totally ruin your business forcing a choice that does not scale with you needs.
Also I assume that:
- you need to expose some service that is more than a wordpress website. It could be a backend for a mobile application, a Rest API or something else.
- You care about your user's privacy.
Strong points
I believe there is much that you can achieve if you manage your own Virtual Machines, you can either host the physical layer on-premises or rent cheap physical machines to use and build your online and development services.
This is because also the bill for hosted VM (VPS) typically does not add up: you spend too much and do not actually get the control and the flexibility you need, let alone the horsepower you pay for.
